Ephedrine is not neither a steroid nor a hormone compound. It is commonly used for its fat burning characteristic. Ephedrine is generally compared with Clenbuterol. However, it is needed to know that they act in different ways. Clenbuterol is a specific beta-2 adrenergic agonist. While Clenbuterol is interacting directly with beta-2 receptors on the fat and muscle, on the other hand, Ephedrine does not stimulates beta-2 receptor. Nevertheless, Ephedrine mimics the release of noradrenaline from sympathetic nerve terminals, and then noradrenaline interacts with the muscle and fat cells as anonspecific agonist.
Ephedrine is known as a sympathomimetic. This means it promotes an increase in sympathetic activity. It is important especially because there is a decrease in sympathetic activity when the one is on a diet. A drop in sympathetic activity causes decrease in metabolic rate and fat mobilization. This is why both athletes and bodybuilders are doing such long-term diets. At this point, ephedrine has potent effects on increasing the metabolic rate and promotes fat loss even after several weeks of the cycle.
Ephedrine is also found effective to combine with caffeine or aspirin. There are some researches have claimed that a combination of 25 mg Ephedrine, 200 mg caffeine and 300 mg aspirin makes it ideal to reach maximum synergetic effect on the body.
Side effects of Ephedrine include rapid heartbeat, insomnia, tremors (light trembling of the fingers), headaches, dizziness, high blood pressure, and lack of appetite. Ephedrine should not be used by those who are suffering from high blood pressure, a hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, irregular heart rhythm, or a recent myocardiac infarction.
